Calisa Marlar, Lead Foreign Language Professor, came to Butler in the fall of 2001, as a Spanish Instructor.  She earned two degrees from Kansas State University.  Calisa earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in May of 1999.  She held elected offices in the Epsilon Xi Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honorary and the Theta Iota Chapter of Delta Women’s Fraternity.  Calisa was chosen as a Rotary, International delegate to represent K-State’s International Team of Community Service and, in the summer of 1998, she lived and worked among the Mayan indigenous peoples of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.  In the summer of 2002, she completed her coursework for a Master of Arts in Second-Language Acquisition & Spanish.  While earning her master’s degree, she was chosen as the graduate teaching assistant to work in Granada, Spain, for KSU’s Study Abroad Program.  Calisa’s curricular interest/thesis addressed bilingual education and the use of Chicano literature to promote cultural learning.  

Calisa teaches various levels of Spanish at the Butler of Andover campus.  Currently, she maintains a full teaching load and oversees the disciplines of Chinese, French, German, Japanese, & Spanish.  She is Command Spanish®, Inc. certified, and is a current member of ACTFL.  She has also participated in the KSWLA.  At Butler, Calisa has been a finalist for the Golden Apple Award and has twice been recognized as an Outstanding Faculty Member by Order of the Purple, a Butler honors society.  Calisa is married to Brandon Hall, a finish carpenter and hunting guide.  They have two young daughters, Celona and Bronwyn.
