Academic Probation and Suspension

Students with an overall grade point average (GPA) of less than 2.0 will be placed on academic probation and restricted to 12 credit hours or less. Students will be automatically taken off of academic probation when their overall GPA reaches 2.0 at the end of an academic semester

At the close of the probation semester, students who fail to improve their GPA to at least a 2.0 will be placed on academic suspension, meaning they will not be allowed to take classes at Butler, will automatically be dropped from pre-enrolled courses for the subsequent semester, and will not be recommended for admission to any other academic institution.

In order to continue taking classes at Butler, students placed on academic suspension must meet with with an Academic Advisor face-to-face and complete the suspension appeals process for reinstatement to the college. If reinstated, at the close of the appeal semester, students failing to improve their overall GPA to at least 2.0 will be suspended from Butler for one semester.

For more information regarding Butler’s Academic progress policy, read the Enrollment and Academic Information portion of the Course Catalog.
