About Disability Services

We’re here to help you access the services you need.

Making Butler Community College accessible to anyone with a disability is the mission of our Office of Disability Services. We act as a liaison between college personnel and students to ensure our accommodations are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. Representatives of Disability Services are available to meet with you at all our campuses.

A full range of support for individual needs.

We are available to work with individual students who are currently enrolled at Butler to establish specific academic accommodations. We do require that you provide current and comprehensive documentation of a temporary disability for which accommodations are needed. Examples of the assistance we can provide include:

  • Letters to the faculty stating your requirements
  • Extended time to take a test
  • Readers or scribes for tests
  • Notetakers
  • Alternate text formats
  • Registration assistance
  • Interpreters for the hearing impaired
  • Accessibility information
  • Proofreading and writing support
  • Tutoring
  • Coordination with instructors
  • Placement testing

If you need assistance with placement testing or any tests administered in a classroom, it is important that you provide documentation to the Disability Services office PRIOR to the date on which the test is scheduled. You should be aware that failure to provide documentation of a disability may not be accepted as a valid reason to retest.

Please contact us at any of our offices if you would like to make use of any of these services. We are here to help you remove any barriers to your pursuit of your academic goals at Butler.
