Lora Tanner, an online student at Butler, received an accounting award from the Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges.

Butler Community College student Lora Tanner won a national scholarship offered by the Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges. This award is offered to outstanding students at two year colleges who are majoring in accounting. This organization only awards seven scholarships.

Tanner, 56, started at Butler spring term 2012, taking at least two classes each semester. She moved back to her hometown Sikeston, Missouri last fall to be closer to her father and has since transitioned to being an online student.

Tanner currently works full time at Essner, Miles and Modde, a CPA firm in Southeast Missouri. After finishing at Butler next fall, she plans on transferring to either Southeast Missouri State or Southern Illinois University.  She hopes to receive a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and eventually become a certified public accountant.

“It has been a long road, but I'm excited to see that my grades and goals are being noticed and that this scholarship will ease my financial burden this fall,” Tanner said.

The Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges’ objective is to advance accounting education. This organization serves as a forum for sharing innovative ideas in accounting curriculum.
